Project History

For more than 70 years, the corner of Washington and Lincoln streets was home to a busy commercial bakery. After the bakery closed, the property languished and left a blemish on the entrance to the downtown Marquette corridor.

The building on the site was functionally obsolete, the land required environmental remediation, and there were steep grade changes.  Despite these challenges, Veridea felt the potential outweighed the drawbacks and the property was purchased for construction of a mixed use urban development — Liberty Way.

Now fully developed, Liberty Way features three buildings with a total of 130,000 square feet of office and lodging space. The 42-million dollar project utilizes the site’s proximity to the area’s natural resources, the City bike path, US41 shopping, Marquette General Hospital, and Northern Michigan University – and repurposes the former industrial area into a new, modern gateway to downtown Marquette.
